[edit] Overview
The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening ("Yume o Miru Shima" in Japanese) was the first Zelda game to be released on the Game Boy. It was also the first Zelda game to take place outside of Hyrule, and also the first to have no relevance to the "main" story of Zelda, Ganon, and the Triforce. However, the game did influence future Zelda games. (In particular, the characters of Marin and Tarin were remade in the next Zelda game released, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, as Malon and Talon.)
The game was originally released June of 1993 in Japan. The DX version for Game Boy Color, which colorized the original game and added a new photography sidequest and a new dungeon, was released December of 1998.
