This proposal isn't ready yet. I have learned from past mistakes, and that will be addressed in the full proposal.
Preface: Earlier I was checking to find the name of an enemy, and see which sprites for it are already uploaded. I only knew of the enemy as "that one-eyed, bomb-throwing monster near the pyramid in ALttP". I checked the ALttP enemies category and checked names I didn't know, until I found its name is Hinox.
Imagine someone trying to find information on a monster, but not knowing its name, only what game it's in. if there were a category for sprites of monsters from this game, they could check there. Clicking on the image would bring up the image's page, and the image's page has links to pages using it, which should include that monster's page.
Of course, there were no Hinox sprites uploaded when I checked, so it wouldn't have helped me. But that's beside the point!
(I almost feel like one of those ghosts in FSA. "If you don't know the name of a monster, you look for its sprite. Everybody knows this. Well, everybody except me. Nobody told me. And now I'm gone =( ")
davogones said, "I think having the images in categories is a good thing. The only thing I want to know is how to customize the image display in the category list, because its overflowing the content area."
I plan to look into how to do this before finalizing my proposal.
Arturo said, "... if they were to be in categories, they should be in different ones: i.e. The Aveil image of shouldn't be in Category: Majora's Mask Characters but, for example in Category: Majora's Mask Sprites"
Especially with the way the existing categories are done, sorting them this way is definitely a must. Therefore, following Arturo's advice, and keeping in mind the category conventions already in place, here is a list of possible categories to use:
Then "Creature" can be replaced by:
...as applicable.
There's no way to "List all images not in a category" that I know of, so it would be a lot of hard work categorizing all of the images!
One option is to have a page with a list of ALL the images. Then, anyone can categorize images, and remove them from the list as they add categories. (Also, any newly added images should be categorized right away.) Once the list is empty, we'd know all the images have been categorized.
Again, this proposal is NOT complete yet. Please comment on any parts which you think should be different or can be improved upon, etc.

It's a great idea! I only have a suggestion: to divide the artwork categories in two:

That's definitely a good idea. I've updated the not-yet-ready proposal. This is why the proposal isn't ready yet -- other people might find ways to improve it. Thanks for the input! =) --Lesoria 10:13, 11 February 2006 (EST)
One problem with this proposal is that Zelda Legends already has a Bestiary and an Image Gallery for exactly the purpose you're describing here. What I don't want to see happen is to have the entire image gallery reproduced here. That would be pointless redundancy. This is an encyclopedia, not an image gallery. We should only be uploading images needed for articles. As long as this guideline is adhered to, it would be a good idea to sort the images into the categories you suggest to make them easier to browse. --davogones 12:21, 11 February 2006 (EST)
I don't think it's redundant to classify the images we've got because sometimes it's easier to lok for the image and using its link, go to the article. You have said you don't want to happen that all the images are reproducted in the wiki. I don't really understand you here. If we had all the articles of all the monsters, we would have much more images than the gallery has, some of them will be from the gallery but others (e. g. the sprites Lesoria and Iron Knuckle have uploaded), that are not in the Image gallery. The image gallery has a function of getting the more images, the better, in the wiki we want to have it complete. And it wouldn't be complete if we didn't have all the official art, for example.--Arturo 14:37, 11 February 2006 (EST)
