Song of Storms

Description

The Song of Storms is one of the songs Link plays using his ocarina. It also appears as background music in the windmills in Ocarina of Time and Oracle of Seasons, as well as in areas near Guru-Guru in Majora's Mask (Gorman's room in the Stock Pot Inn during the day and the Laundry Pool at night).

Ocarina of Time

When Link returns to the windmill in Kakariko Village after waking up in the Temple of Time, the man inside isn't the same happy person he was when Link was a child. Seven years earlier, a boy with an ocarina had come to the windmill and played a strange song. The song caused the windmill to speed up and the village well to dry up. For some reason, this angered the man, although it's hard to say why, since he never leaves the windmill.

When Link pulls out his own ocarina, the man teaches him the Song of Storms, the song played by the child seven years earlier. After returning the Master Sword to the Pedestal of Time, young Link returns to the windmill and plays the Song of Storms, allowing him access to the area underneath Kakariko's well. While it is still useful for certain things, the Song of Storms doesn't make another appearance in the storyline until much later.

In the Desert Colossus there is a dried oasis where, if you stand on the stone next to it and play the Song of Storms, the oasis fills and forms an outdoor fairy fountain.

The Song of Storms can also be used in some places where Navi turns green without an apparent reason to make appear a Fairy that heals you completely and fills the magic meter. Unfortunately, these fairies cannot be captured using a Bottle

Majora's Mask

On the first of the three days before the moon crash in Termina, Link takes the Captain's Hat to Ikana Graveyard and orders the Stalchildren hanging around to open a grave marked "The melody that summons the tears of angels rests here." After he defeats the Iron Knuckle he finds below, Link encounters the ghost composer, Flat.

Flat tells the story of how his brother, Sharp, sold his soul to the devil and sealed Flat away under the grave. He requests that Link learn the song on the stone behind him and disappears. Upon reading the stone, Link remembers the Song of Storms. He takes the song to Springwater Cave and plays it for Sharp, who becomes good once more as water begins to flow from the cave again.

In Majora's Mask, playing the Song of Storms will water a Magic Bean sprout, allowing you to keep your bottles filled with other necessities.

If you approach a Gossip Stone and play the Song of Storms, a big fairy will come out. These fairies will heal both your health and magic, but they cannot be captured in a bottle.

The Song of Storms Paradox

The Song of Storms has a rather strange paradox surrounding it. In Ocarina of Time, you learn the song from Guru-Guru, the man in the windmill. When you learn the song, Guru-Guru says that he learned it from a child seven years ago, but that child is you. If you learned it from Guru-Guru, and he learned it from you, then just where did the song come from? In Majora's Mask, Flat wrote the Song of Storms, but Link learned the song and entered the OoT loop before he ever went to Termina. It seems that the origin of the Song of Storms in OoT will forever remain a paradox.
