The fair-skinned Hylian people (after whom Hyrule was named]] are the chosen race of the gods. They have long ears, capable of hearing the voices of the gods, excellent senses, and magical abilities, and they are sometimes blessed with prophecies.

Because of their closeness with the gods, the Hylian people have been in Hyrule since its beginnings, and they have written the history of the land and its creation on scrolls and in books.

The Hylians are the dominant race in Hyrule in Ocarina of Time, but in other games in the series they are almost extinct. Link and Zelda are the only Hylians that appear (or are mentioned) in all Zelda games.
